Growing up as a Syrian, Maen saw the effects of poor access to food nearly every day. These deficiencies severely affected the quality of life in the community he grew up in. When he immigrated to the United States, he was surprised to find similar disparities within San Francisco. His interest in finding solutions to this problem grew. The divide between rich and poor is so stark in the Bay Area. Food is a great way to bridge the gap between income levels in our community and to become more aware of the people, problems, and needs in the community.
