Thank you very much for your comments. We have just secured a researcher to help us with the evaluation and research of our program. The ability to show progress will help us to continue our current day programs as well as our new after-school opportunities.
Thanks for your comment! Our solution is to add an after-school yoga and mindfulness program in support of our daily programming to mitigate high stress levels due to situational experience and trauma from lead exposure. Out of the 9 elementary schools in Flint Community Schools, roughly 70-150 students participate in after-school programming in each school. Depending on the school that is 1/2 to 1/3 of students. We have had mindfulness programming in FCS for the past 4 years. We are expanding our day programming to include daily mindfulness practice, bi-monthly mindfulness lessons for each classroom, and opportunities for yoga practice such as short activity breaks or lunch yoga. By offering various mindfulness opportunities in several forms, we hope students will have a consistent practice, which is so important in the success of mindfulness. As well, we hope they find a mindfulness practice that resonates with them to spark the beginning of a lifetime of practice.
